Cappabane Irish Turf Peat
    Cappabane Irish Turf Peat
    Purchase Cappabane Irish Turf Peat
These sods of Turf, or Peat, are harvested by hand from Cappabane Mountain Bog in East Clare, Ireland. This box contains .68 cubic Feet of Naturally dried Irish turf or Irish fire logs. Turf is seasoned for at least one year after harvested from the bog. Each sod of turf is hand selected before being packed. This ensures that you are only getting full size sods of turf, like those which are burned in Irish cottages, and not little chips of turf which are off cuts from modern machined cut turf. Burning this product gives off a distinct aroma that is unique to the Irish home. Turf burns hotter than the same weight of wood and will also burn longer. To get the most from your turf, burn in an open fireplace. Light the fire using wood or other fuels and when you are ready to settle down beside the fire add in 2 or 3 Irish turf fire logs. These turf fire logs are also a great way ad flavor to food by tossing a sod on outdoor grill while cooking meats. Free shipping applies to orders shipped with the United States only.

Second year in a row ordering. Excellent service and love the aroma peat produces. I miss the briquettes. Wish it was less expensive because i would use it more often.

I bought these as a gift for my father, so I don't have personal experience with them, but he seems pretty happy with them. Not for nothing, but they arrived very quickly as well.

Years ago, I was invited to teach in Northern Ireland in a college exchange program. Whereas I stayed in a smal town during my month there, the weekend prior to my departure, my hosts traeted me to a weekend at their holiday home in Ballyshannon. Each of the neighboring cottages perfumed the air with the scent of burning turf. When I returned to the USA, I decided to keep a supply of peat sods on hand for the chilly weather. Now, thanks to foodireland.com, I can toss a sod in the fireplace (along with oak and hickory logs) and I am instantly transported back to the Emerald Isle.
    Surprisingly fun

The peat logs were a gift which, I presumed would be mostly useless. I was first in Ireland 45 years ago when many pubs and homes were “heated” with them. The parentheses emphasizes the fact that they give off darn little heat. After all, there are essentially dirt. What do you expect? We decided to use them and were happily surprised. Indeed, they don’t give off the heat of wood, but the aroma is magnificent-even outside from the chimney. Wish they were cheaper. I’d use them more often.
