My husband and I visited Ireland for the first time in 2005. While we loved the local food, my favorite was the delicious ketchup, of all things!
While staying in Galway, we enjoyed a lovely dinner, which included the mysteriously tasty ketchup. I asked the waitress if we could possibly have the recipe. She smiled and said no, they could not give us the recipe because it was chef's. I patiently explained that yes, I understood it was the chef's recipe, but we live in the U.S. and would not sell the information or use it for any purpose other to enjoy at our own home-cooked meals. She laughed and tried to explain again that she could not give us the recipe because it was chef's. I then asked if I could speak with the chef and personally request the recipe. She headed for the kitchen and returned with the manager who held in his hands a bottle of "Chef Ketchup," which he gave us! Imagine how silly I felt!
Before we left Ireland, we purchased several large bottles of this thick, rich, sweet ketchup to enjoy at home.
I was thrilled to discover the Food Ireland website so that we can now purchase Chef Ketchup at our convenience to keep and share with loved ones!
